I was a little worried it might be too flimsy for groceries, but the medium weight cotton handles the load without sagging. The print itself has held up through a few washes already, which is more than I can say for other totes I've owned.
The cotton is a solid medium weight—sturdy enough for groceries but not stiff, and the print looks clean even after a few washes. I toss my laptop and a book in it daily without any strain on the handles.
